Thank you for this history. Is it reasonable to spend a few hours there in late July? We will be staying nearby for one night before our tour to Tuscany but I am concerned about the heat and the jet lag.
One of my favourite places. I always advise people new to Rome to go to Ostia Antica. I can’t understand why there are always so few people there but I don’t mind, all the better to let one imagine how it was 2000 years ago.
Such a timely and delightful read with amazing photos. Timely, as we shall do a deep dive there very soon! Hoping for Part 2 before too long! So glad to read and follow you.

It depends a great deal on the time of day, certainly not ideal in the middle of the day in the hottest weeks of the year (jet lag or not)!
So many happy memories of a delightful jaunt
so much fun!!

Part 2 in the next couple of weeks! Thanks so much for reading and for the lovely comment!
Agnes, you've outdone yourself with these photos and evocative descriptions.
And ❤️ Patti Smith included.
Thank you! (& the concert was fab!)
It is wonderful. Unfortunately most of the mosaics are covered in winter for their protection.
