Thank you Agnes always intrigued by this group-statue. For me like the huge Farnese group in Naples museum with the bull I want to know the back-story, what lead up to this scene - is there a longer story to tell about Laocoon? We are aware of his action during the battle of Troy but what is his story before that time?

He's really only mentioned in that context in ancient literary sources, and is sometimes described as the son of Poseidon or of Priam among others. I'm afraid the prequel is yet to be written! I look forward to meeting you both too!
Just caught up with this podcast. What a brilliant contextualisation of a most excellent and eloquent statue. Thank you - we really enjoyed it.
thanks David, I really appreciate it!! All best to you both and family for a happy Christmas x
