After a long August break which took in five countries, planes, trains and boats, and lots of lovely friends and family, I went back to work first thing on Monday bright-eyed and bushy-tailed with a metaphorical case of newly sharpened pencils.
Agnes- For some reason, the tree lined road to the beach is what stood out for me. The photos of the art and architecture marvel is definitely amazing. But that road just gives that extra breath of fresh air to the piece. I appreciate this. 🙏
That's wild that the Bulgari Hotel has one of the ancient statues of Augustus. I know there are lots of full length statues of him. I'm wondering, were they all made during his reign? And were many of them found much later? Any buried in vineyards like the Laocoon?
I love the evocative photo of the narrow road to the beach. :-)
Every time I read one of your wonderful posts it reminds me that there's still so much to see in Rome that I haven't yet, even though I've been there several times. One of those places is San Giovanni e Paolo, it looks lovely! By the way, my icon is a photo I took at the beach in Ostia in July 2022.

My third visit to Rome next week. Can’t wait!
We have only scratched the surface.
Have a super trip!

lots are also made posthumously, in the wake of his deification, but he is perpetually about 24! And yes most are found from the 16th c onwards.
Thanks!
love the tabernacolo and Madonna statue... so much to see still....even after 60 years here.
