Well this is proprio sulla mia strada. I've sat mesmerised, for much longer than necessary, in that little room upstairs in the Palatine Museum and now own my own copy of The Sourcebook of Decorative Stone. Wisely, friends now conceal any renovation plans.
Must have been a treacherous sea journey in precariously balanced boats lying low in the water. There are probably many ‘porticoworths’ of columns at the bottom of the Mediterranean.
What a fabulous trip that must have been to see such splendid marble in the wild. Thank you for the pictures! Also, goats are inscrutable, don't feel slighted.

some columns were lashed to the boats to sit partially submerged and maximise thrust. Many many porticos are underground!
