It's eternally part of film history, but the Nazi scenes in Roma Città Aperta are unwatchably camp. It's a tribute to the sincerity of the Italian scenes that they overcome the flaw and are so touching and memorable. A lot of film theory boils down to economics. I wish I were there for that tour but I'm always there at Christmas, when everyone’s away. Thanks for the excellent post.

I love this article, and it made me want to visit Cinecittà Studios. I didn't know they had a permanent exhibition. Ladri di biciclette is such a masterpiece. It also reminds us "younger" Italians about how rough things used to be after WWII. Grazie for sharing!
